Some questions for all those who teach tango:
How often do I mention the line of dance in my classes?
Do I show how the patterns I teach fit in the line of dance?
Do I teach both figuras that stay in place and figuras that travel?
Do I teach both male and female students how to observe their surroundings and dance in their available space?
Do I simulate the line of dance in my classes so students can practice?
If the answers are no, why?
Finding students and getting them to stay is hard enough; teaching line of dance is of course difficult too. Let’s prepare those who choose us to dance in the milonga.
